OUR STORY

BORN OUT OF TRAGEDY

Duck Salt was created by our founder, Matt, as a true all-purpose seasoning to replace the need to carry a bunch of spices during outdoor adventures with his friends, dubbed the “8 Ducks.” They loved “ducking up” their food using his new seasong, and it quickly became their go-to seasoning — even back at home! And just like that Duck salt was born! What was born out of fun, Duck Salt soon became a symbol of resilience for a community that was rocked by tragedy. Matt’s hometown of Greensburg, Kansas, was virtually destroyed by one of the worst F5 tornadoes in history. The town came together to rebuild, and during that time, Matt shared his Duck Salt with friends and neighbors — it quickly became a local favorite and was even nicknamed “Duck Tape” because it made so many things tastier! What started as a small gesture of comfort grew into something much bigger. Matt began bottling Duck Salt and spreading flavor and hope across Kansas and beyond!

DOGS AND DOING GOOD

A few years later, Matt developed Duck Nuts and they were a hit! We became good friends and I helped him launch Duck brands throughout the state of Kansas while I worked in the adult beverage distribution industry. From my very first handful, I was hooked — and let’s be honest, some things just go together, like beer and peanuts! LOL! I worked hard to help Matt grow his business and am proud to help keep his legacy going. Over the years, we bonded through the love of our dogs and our shared passion for quietly doing good things for others. Sadly, we lost our friend Matt in February 2022, and I wanted to see his dream live on. With a lot of hard work and great folks believing in me, we brought Duck Brands back in the spring of 2023! In honor of Matt, Molly, and Maggie (our dogs), we proudly give 4% back to local causes and communities — hoping to bring a little joy to someone’s life. We believe in kindness, community, and good flavor — the values that have guided us from day one.

BUT HOLD ON — IT GETS EVEN NUTTIER!

But hold on — it gets even nuttier! In 2024, we faced another major setback when we lost our roaster due to a corporate buyout, leaving us once again without Duck Nuts and forcing our business to shutter. It was a tough blow, but with determination and faith, I made a promise: I’d bring Duck Nuts back, but only if I could find a family-owned roaster who shared our same values — trust, hard work, and doing business with a handshake and a conversation.After months of searching, I finally found the one — a family-owned roaster that’s been in business for over 50 years, led by a gentleman who’s been there for 40 of them. It was an instant match. Together, we perfected our process, added cashews, and committed to roasting every nut in 100% pure peanut oil for unmatched flavor. It’s been a wild few years, but through perseverance and faith, Duck Nuts & duck salt came roaring back — stronger, better, and tastier than ever.
